The spectral power curve of an LED peaks at individual colors in the visible spectrum. These peaks allow your eyes to identify more contrast between colors and objects. Like daylight the light from an LED has a spectral peak in the blue range, and is perceived as white by the eye.

Incandescent bulbs however peak in the red, which explains their yellowish light. With incandescent light it is harder to identify different colors and shades.
